The First Day of the Year

I've asked you all to be here,
for the first day of the year,
to celebrate new life,
to live without any fear.
I hope to have a spell or two,
one for me, and one for you.

First of all it's formal,
this dinner that I've made,
we'll all be at our best,
the table will be laid.
with candles, cups and silver,
a flower, an apple and a pear,
upon our breast a golden sash,
each one of us will wear.

The shimmering lights will show,
dancing couples graceful steps.
lovelights in their eyes,
into the hearts depths.
we'll toast a merry yuletide,
and a solstice great.
no more the pranksters merriment.
will cause a trying wait.

When everyone has had their fill,
Gwion will bring us mead.
as we sit and rest our souls,
the animals will feed.
And as the evening draws to dawn,
all magic is worked in peace,
with the year in infancy,
there will be a new release.

So come and join us presently,
and sing a merry tune,
another solstice won't be here,
until the month of June.

Blessed Be,

Glenda Goodwitch,
